Roland SH-101 T1 transformer replacement
After working out some specs, Richard from Australian Technical Production Services (ATPS) made up a more suitable drop-in replacement power supply module for the SH-101 T1 transformer. Now I can run on the original wall wart and batteries again! The PSU fits snug, SH-101 sounds great (same as before) and it’s also very reasonably priced! 🙂

I mainly mention music here, but I’ve just been reading Jonathan Swords-Holdsworth‘s debut short story collection “Stories Of An Awkward Size” and thought it deserves a plug here:

Minirig Symetrix 420 ConnexElectronic TA2022
1.6kg, 100W per channel, Class-T with SMPS.
Just finished this amp that some may find interesting. I wanted to build a 19″ 1RU (rack unit) Class-D power amp that would be light and compact. Using the ConnexElectronic TA2022 amp module, the SMPS250 PSU and the speaker protection module. It was a bit fiddly as I had to cut 5mm off the heatsinks and replace all the big caps with 35mm ones. Inside the Behringer MS20 20 watt stereo near field monitor: reviewed and dismantled
I have had a pair of Behringer MS20 monitors speakers. I’ve had them for a about 6 months or so. They have a fairly thin, but detailed sound for the price point. One thing with them is a good mix sounds VERY good, while a bad mix, or a badly encoded mp3, sounds woeful. I would ot call them mega accurate, but they do seem to show up bad mixes very well.
Note that I dont use these for writing music on, mainly just general music listening.. in fact more as a high end set of 2:1 PC speakers than anything, which they are great for.

I just wanted to send you an email to let you know i think your speakers are kick-arse. DIY cabinets are a hobby of mine, so I can appreciate good design when i see it. If I had a cool 2 grand lying around your speakers would be in my house tomorrow. If you ever list a sub with extension to 20hz (i play an 8 string bass guitar with a fundamental on the lowest string of 22hz) I may be forced to buy it) I often plug my bass into my hifi with a good compressor to play in my bedroom.
Keep up the good work!!
Mercat PA cuts out under pressure
Just as Berliners Modeselektor moved from their dubby sounding warm up into what could only be described as love parade banging techno the amps on the Mercat X Dancehall PA cut out! It took a full 20 seconds of silence before the overload relay switched back in. This happened 3 times during their set!! Totally wrecking the energy on the dance floor. Luckily Cecile the following act managed to revive it.
